Dave Burfeind is pedaling across America from Washington state to Maine this summer. He was camped at the Fisherman’s Island State Park in Charlevoix, MI on Sunday evening, July 14, 2019. The next day Mother Nature decided to sprinkle us with rain and Dave decided to wait it out at our church. He was very willing to lend a hand in the serving of the Community Lunch Program. Afterward, he got a bite to eat and continued on his way to Traverse City, MI. Turns out Dave is the camp director of a Methodist Church camp in Washington. The Lazy F Camp. Happy trails to you . . . . It was nice to met you, Dave.
Come enjoy a medley of Christmas music and inspiration on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 7 p.m. The evening will feature an accomplished cellist, soloist/pianist, small band, and choir, along with inspirational readings from Max Lucado. This is a free event and open to the public.
While you are out holiday shopping in downtown Charlevoix, come to the Charlevoix United Methodist Church’s Soup and Christmas sale. Warm up with all you can eat homemade soup; peruse the homemade baked goods, crafts, and gently used Christmas décor for sale.
The sale will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The church is located at 104 State Street, Charlevoix, Michigan, just one block from Bridge Street and the downtown stores.
The church will use the proceeds to support the church’s mission, including a workcamp mission to the Henderson Settlement in Kentucky, support for the local Kids Hope program, and to fund packets of necessities for the homeless in Northern Michigan.
Congratulations to the Bridge Street Tap Room and chef Aaron Hagen for winning Charlevoix’s 14th annual chili cook off!! Chef Hagen was inspired by and created the Hogzillachili with sous chef Charles Pitcher. Hogzillachili was #1 in the lineup of seven area restaurants. It was a very close race and we received numerous compliments on each of the delicious chilis.
We want to thank all of the participating restaurants, Bridge Street Tap Room, the Weathervane with Pork and Beans, Hotdoggers with Chillilicious, Pigs Eat’n Ribs with Notorious P.I.G., Scovies and their Chicken Chili, The Cantina with Pork Black Bean and Corn, and the French Quarter with their Ran Delicious chili. Thanks to all of our volunteers who made the day possible and finally, a big thank you to everyone who came out to sample and vote for their favorite chili. Serving as the judges, you made this fundraiser a great success!
